Old Chickahominy House

1211 Jamestown Road

Set in a charming house that dates back to the 18th century, Old Chickahominy House blends rich history with great southern food. They are known for their fluffy biscuits that they've been cooking up from scratch since 1955. Try them with country ham, bacon, or sausage. They are also open for lunch, where you can get Miss Melinda's Brunswick Stew and a slice of homemade pie.

Insider Tip: While you're there, stop by the gift shop to meet Brunswick Oliver Stewart "Stewie," the latest in a long line of Chickahominy House feline mascots, who loves to greet visitors.

Colonial Pancake House

301 Page Street

If you’re craving a delicious breakfast with fast service and a family-friendly vibe, Colonial Pancake House checks all the boxes. Try the Colonial Breakfast, complete with Virginia ham and home-fried potatoes, or the Banana Split Waffle with the works. There's even a selection of gluten-free menu items (including pancakes).

The friendly staff makes this one of Williamsburg’s great family brunch spots. There’s plenty of space for group orders, and it’s conveniently located near many of the area’s popular attractions.

Southern Pancake & Waffle House

This place offers a vast variety of flavored pancakes, from basic options like peach or pecan to specialty choices like chocolate insanity, complete with two scoops of chocolate chip cookie dough ice cream, or cinnamon swirl pancakes topped with a cream cheese glaze! You could eat there every day of your vacation and not have the same flavor twice.

The beauty is that they don't stop there. They have waffles, omelettes, French toast, and even a T-bone steak on offer to provide your morning protein boost. Come hungry, leave stuffed and ready for an adventure (or a mid-morning nap)!

For a classic American diner experience, head to Shorty's, which is open from 6:00 am to 2:00 pm daily. With a tag line that says "It's not fancy, it's not fat free...It's just the way it used to be," you know you're going to get old favorites like corned beef hash, steak & eggs, and country fried steak. You can also look forward to home fries, omelets, pancakes, and more.

Insider Tip: For a unique breakfast experience, try Shorty's Cuban Omelet with spiced pork, ham, pickles, cabbage, Swiss cheese, and Cuban sauce.

Smokey Griddle Pancake House

2227 Richmond Road

This family-owned and operated local diner doesn't even have its own website. What it does have is a menu packed with reliable favorites like French toast and eggs Benedict. In addition, you'll find some fun Tex-Mex options like the breakfast chimichanga and Chorizo Con Huevos or a breakfast quesadilla. While the setting is understated, they have reasonable prices, and the portions are generous.

Tipsy Beans Café

1430 High Street

If you're looking for something a little trendier that will satisfy your hunger and also give you a massive selection of coffees and smoothies, head to the Tipsy Beans Café. They are open all day (Tuesday–Sunday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm), so you can stop in for breakfast, lunch, or an early dinner.

Just like the name suggests, you can add a little something extra to your beverages if you'd like. They even make suggestions like trying a splash of vanilla vodka with your caramel macchiato or a bit of amaretto in your almond joy.

Beverages aside, parents will love the classics like avocado toast, shrimp and grits, or omelets. At the same time, kids will enjoy a fruit smoothie and a cinnamon roll or a grilled PB&J. So, grab a table or belly up to the bar and enjoy a tipsy twist on your usual cafe experience.

Los Paisanos

7105 Pocohontas Trail

This Mexican restaurant is open Monday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 8:30 pm. For breakfast, you can find all your favorite pancakes, omelets, and waffles, but you'll also have access to choices you won't find anywhere else.

Unique choices like the fajita omelet, breakfast tacos, and scrambled eggs served with beans, avocado, and pico de gallo add a little spice to your morning meal. If you're looking to wake up your taste buds, this is the place for you. Plus, you can’t beat their affordable prices!

Insider Tip: Try the Tex-Mex Benedict, which features avocado and bacon on an English muffin topped with poached eggs, jalapenos, and pico de gallo.

Donut Shops in Williamsburg

Sometimes you just need something quick and delicious, whether you’re headed to Water Country USA or looking for a sweet start to satisfy your taste buds. If donuts are calling your name, we’ve got two local favorites you won’t want to miss.

Emily's Donuts and Café

7123 Merrimac Trail

Our family has a thing for donuts, and Emily’s hits the spot every time. We’ve sampled sweet rings of fried dough on three continents, and this locally owned gem is one of our favorites.

If you love a good donut, Emily’s is the perfect place to satisfy your craving. You can even order online for pickup or delivery. Their menu features everything from classic yeast and cake donuts to over-the-top creations. The real standouts? Apple fritters (so good, there's a limit of two per online order), flaky cronuts, and indulgent long johns.

Duck Donuts

4566 Monticello Ave #103

While we usually lean toward mom-and-pop shops, Duck Donuts is a dependable favorite, and this Williamsburg location was our very first experience with the brand! They serve warm, made-to-order cake donuts with tons of customizable toppings.

Not sure what to try? Choose from one of their fan-favorite combos. Craving coffee too? They’ve got you covered with hot and iced drinks, plus donut breakfast sandwiches if you're after something savory.

Plan Your Perfect Breakfast in Williamsburg

Whether you're beating the crowds, feeding picky eaters, or need a one-stop brunch before a day at Busch Gardens, here are a few tips to help you plan which location is best for your family:

  • Timing is Everything: Local favorites like Mama Steve’s and Old Chickahominy House fill up fast. Arrive by 8:30 am to avoid long waits and enjoy a more relaxed start to your day.

  • Late Breakfast or Brunch: Prefer a slower morning? Head to Blue Talon Bistro or Tipsy Beans Cafe, which serve a bit later and are perfect for lingering over coffee or easing into the day.

  • Feeding Picky Eaters: Stick to tried-and-true spots like Capitol Pancake House, Shorty’s Diner, or Southern Pancake & Waffle House. Their menus are full of kid-friendly classics. Donuts are always a win, too. Duck Donuts and Emily's Donuts and Café both deliver sweet treats and fun flavors that satisfy even the most selective little food critics.

  • More Adventurous Crew: For something different, try Los Paisanos with its Tex-Mex breakfast options or Tipsy Beans for smoothie bowls, creative café bites, and fun drink upgrades.

  • Fueling Up for Big Adventures: If you're heading to Busch Gardens, go big at Mama Steve’s, Astronomical Pancake House, or order the Big Southern platter at Southern Pancake. If time's tight, swing by Emily's Donuts or Duck Donuts. A box of fresh, made-to-order donuts is an easy way to grab and go. Donuts also make a great portable pick, especially from Emily's, where fritters and cronuts travel well.

  • Lighter Fare or Portable Options: Grab-and-go is easy at Tipsy Beans Cafe or Smokey Griddle, where smoothies and breakfast quesadillas are quick, satisfying, and mess-free.

  • Budget-Friendly Bites: Don’t sleep on the local gems! Smokey Griddle and Los Paisanos offer generous portions, bold flavors, and great prices. Many dishes are easily shareable for families watching both wallets and appetites.

  • Group-Friendly Seating: Traveling with a crowd? Colonial Pancake House, Capitol Pancake House, and Shorty’s have plenty of space and friendly, efficient service.

  • Instagram & TikTok-Worthy Bites: If presentation matters, Astronomical Pancake House delivers over-the-top stacks and sweet creations. At Tipsy Beans, your smoothie bowl or tipsy latté is practically made for your camera roll.
